Something exciting I have wanted to share with the readers of this blog is the creation of RoseChat radio program on BlogTalkRadio. It’s the only show on the radio dedicated to growing roses. It is a work in progress and we are having a great time chatting with rose gardeners from all over the U.S.A. With the rose industry as a whole in a flux and interest in horticultural societies on the decline, I thought I would jump in and do my part to try to revive the industry to its former bloom.
Am I a professional radio announcer? NO. Do I love to talk about roses? YES! At some point I had to balance the two and so I just went for it!

Christopher R. VanCleave – America’s Favorite Rose Gardener
Nicknamed "The Redneck Rosarian”, Chris VanCleave is passionate about gardening and growing roses. He is an active member of the Birmingham chapter of the American Rose Society, serving two terms as President. In 2007, he created the Rose Chat Podcast which has reached over a half a million listeners with news and information on growing on growing the world’s most beloved flower, the rose.

Thank you so much for visiting my photo blog! As a rose gardener you must have been dismayed at my photos, but my blog does say I am a beginning photographer! 😆 I hope you were able to find at least some beauty there! Most of the photos were taken along the “Rose Walk” at Lake Junaluska, NC. Starting in mid-summer it is one of the loveliest places to visit, and I invite you to come up to the mountains and visit! I believe you will be delighted. The landscapers and gardeners at the Lake are extraordinary artists in their work, and I know you would find it a pleasing walk to take.
I have a question! Last year we planted a climbing rose to grow over the pergola/arbor of our front porch. It took off beautifully and grew far beyond what we ever expected, but with one small problem: no roses on it! We believe we over-fertilized it, so we gave it our apologies, and waited until this spring for the blossoms that were sure to come. Sure enough, as spring began – very early (for that take TOO early!) We had no real winter here in the mountains. Odd weather!) Anyway, the bush had, literally hundreds of buds on it and we were so excited! Before the buds opened, we were hit with an extremely hard freeze, and all the buds were frozen and died. (BTW, we “dead-headed” as many of the buds as we could find and/or reach. If you would like a photo, please let me know and I will send you one.) Tell me, as a rose gardener, will it bloom again – or at least try? We have seen no buds in several weeks, and we expected to see some by now. Poor thing! It seems destined not to bloom. We have added some “blooming” fertilizer as a boost, but really don’t know what to do.
Interestingly enough, we have a tea rose that we put outside two years ago after having it indoors in the pot it came in – a gift from my husband. It has bloomed beautifully every year, and even after the freeze has continued to put our beautiful blossoms.

Thanks for visiting my brand new blog on gardening. I am without a doubt the laziest gardener there is. However, I am unbelievably blessed as each year it turns out more beautiful than the last.
