Gave my irises a good haircut today. I live in the deep south, and I usually cut mine down to 4 – 6 inches in height. This seems to allow for a stronger root system next spring.
The roses in the background are some of the “Knock Out” shrub roses I planted back in the early spring. They are doing very well and have grown to well over 3 ft tall. I will not prune these this year, but will wait until this time next year and cut these back, they will have established a good root system by then.
