Sounds Of The Season – “Christmas At Belmont”

Nashville is a town that has a rich musical heritage. It also hold a rich historical significance not only to Tennessee and the south, but to the nation. Each year Belmont University hosts “Christmas at Belmont” a nationally acclaimed musical performance. This is a tradition dating back to pre-civil war days when the Hayes-Acklen family hosted Christmas celebrations at the Belmont Mansion which is the centerpiece of the Belmont University campus. They also have a beautiful rose garden planted on the campus.

For you southern history buffs. It is said that Adelicia Hayes-Acklen who built the Belmont Mansion during the civil war era was the inspiration for the character Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With The Wind.

The annual performances at Belmont have always inspired me and I wanted to share a clip of this event with you today. Many public television stations around the nation carry this even. Watch for it in your local listings. You’ll be glad you did!
