Update on ‘Ketchup & Mustard’ Floribunda

As you know I was a little leery of a rose named after condiments, but I went ahead last fall and pre-ordered three shrubs of ‘Ketchup & Mustard’ floribundas.  The prospect of a red rose with a yellow underside was quite appealing to me. They are planted in our front yard around our gas lamp post and have been a little slow to start, but now the blooms are coming and we are quite impressed. See what you think:

The jury is still out on disease resistance, its just too early to tell.  But the blooms sure are pretty!

  3. Saw it recently at a friends house. May not be the ugliest rose I’ve ever seen but it’s close

Gee – the commenters are not nice to this rose. But it looks pretty to me (I’ve only seen your pictures of it, though). Still, I don’t think I want a rose with that name in my garden. Unless they come out with an entire line – like ‘Hamburger’ rose and ‘Hot Dog’ rose and ‘Relish’ rose, etc. to go along with it!

Nice condiment color combo; I’m just glad the hybridizer didn’t try for mayo and Worcestershire.

  9. I love any kind of roses and was not aware that there were so many! I love taking pictures of them. I will do a rose blog soon with some shots I did years ago. I wish I could have been in my great grandpa’s garden years ago. I can just imagine the fragrance!
