After having planted this rose about a month ago, I didn’t expect to see a bloom this soon. As you may recall, this is a new rose being introduced in 2013 and I was lucky enough to have been given a shrub to grow in my own garden from a friend. Just after planting this rose I noticed several new shoots and today one of them produced this bloom:
This rose was field grown during the AARS trials under no spray conditions and I have likewise not sprayed this rose since planting it in my garden.
It also has a great fragrance.
I’d put this one on my 2013 wish list!

Christopher R. VanCleave – America’s Favorite Rose Gardener

Beautiful. I love the fact you are so knowledgeable about roses. My father was and your interest makes me remember him and the beautiful yard we had covered in wonderful roses he was so proud to display. Each year he would add a rose or two. I used to grow the White Meilland landscape rose. It was tough, and rooted everywhere it touched the ground. Not as refined as “Francis Meilland” by any means-

Your Francis Meilland is so beautiful! I will be looking for it here in Tulsa. We have a couple of nurseries that pick up on the newer roses. I enjoy your blog very much.

I’m in love with the “Francis Meiland” rose. I read an old, old book, “For the Love of a Rose”. It told about the families who, with much effort, propagated “Peace” rose. I have four of these beauties. Also many of “Alba’, the ground cover rose. Joycalyn Ann Skinner in humid Louisiana
