Garden Bloggers Bloom Day – August 2012

The recent rainfall has brought out hybrid tea roses out in a big way. I have cut approximately three dozen blooms in the last ten days and there are more buds left to open. Here’s a sample of what’s blooming this week:

I was under the impression. That roses don’t like a lot of water. Am I wrong? Or does it vary by the USDA zones? I was always told to water only if it hasn’t rained in awhile. Guess its incorrect!

    • We have been without rain for weeks and have been hand watering our garden. No matter how much we water from the spigot, it pales in comparison to what falls from the sky. Roses need at least 1″ of water per week. Our rule is, if it rains that week, we don’t hand water. If not, out comes the bucket! Thanks for stopping by…..

Your pictures are gorgeous! So nice to bring flowers indoors for bouquets. I wonder if your unknown rose is Sedona? I have it, and it looks very similar. Mine has a fruity fragrance (at times!).

    • We love to bring in blooms for the house and to share with others. I too have noticed that our roses have varying fragrances depending on growing conditions. I have had some roses with no scent at all the first year, then boom! second year a great smell!

What a beautiful suite of roses, I like the color in the unknown most. Unfortunately with our heat and salt wind it would be impossible for me to grow those.

    • Moonstone is one of my all time favorites. Such an all around beautiful rose on the bush and in bouquets. I break my work in the garden down into an hour here and there so to me it doesn’t seem like too much. I so much enjoy my time in the garden among the blooms.

Your roses are gorgeous, especially Moonstone! I, too, am loving all this rain, but so are the weeds! I hear the temps are predicted to be a bit lower this week. I am looking forward to that!
