If you’ve been reading this blog a while you know that my love of gardening began when I was just a kid. My daily garden walks with my Dad set in motion a love of the earth and of all things that grow. Read more about how it all began here.
My dad loved his garden and worked in it every day. His favorite tool in the garden was an old Troy-Bilt tiller. He used it to break ground in the spring and was always looking for a reason to use it. It was a prized possession of his and he taught me to use it as well. I was excited to learn that Troy-Bilt was one of the sponsors of P. Allen Smith’s Garden 2 Blog event this spring and when they asked me to try out their new String Trimmer and Jump Start starter, I was excited to give it a try.
My garden is comprised of a series of raised beds and bordered beds around the perimeter of our back yard. Keeping all that trimmed takes a lot of work and effort, and with most trimmers you have to worry about the right mix of oil and gas, you have to pull the cord a hundred times to start it, but as I found out by trying this trimmer in my own garden, the folks at Troy-Bilt put a lot of thought into ease of use with this product.
The unit was very easy to assemble and was ready to use in no time. First, it has a 30cc 4-cycle engine that requires no mixing of oil and gas and is really quieter than other trimmers I’ve used. The click and trim feature is cool. It lets you add new line quickly without a lot of trouble. One of the best features of this trimmer is the Jump Start starter. It’s an external starter that allows you to start the trimmer with the click of a button. As someone who has had shoulder problems, this is a lifesaver. You can even use the Jump Start starter with any other Troy-Bilt Jump Start capable product.
This is definitely a product that I can recommend without reservation. It is easy to use and my neighbors who had to come see my new toy, now want one for themselves…..
We had a great time at Garden2Blog 2013 trying out Troy-Bilt Products: My friend and fellow blogger, Barbara Wise who blogs at BWiseGardening loved this product too!
I was honored to be a part of this event and even more honored to be able to try this gas trimmer in my own garden. I think my dad would be mighty impressed.

Have one too! Troy- Bilt was the best yard and garden products hands down. Not anymore! My 4 cy. troy-bilt starts great just won’t run. No help from customer service. Just go buy a cheap string trimmer to start with and save lots of money. They should change their name to cheap-bilt.
