I can hardly believe we are well into summer already. Our roses are holding up well due to some much welcomed rainfall this year. Here are a few of the roses that are blooming this week in our Alabama rose garden.

Lesley,
We had a few beetles this year, but none like previous years. Sorry to hear they have been a problem for you…

Chris, beetles have eaten my Sunny blooms during its third flush. What do you do besides hand picking them? They seem to do most destruction during the PM hours…

Not much. We hand pick and drown them in a bucket of soapy water. Most sprays are ineffective. Killing larva by applying milky spore is a prevenative measure that has yeilded good results for us.

Chris, after listening to your rose chat with Weeks Roses, I do not understand how they test a variety in other parts of the country before they go to market. Could you explain this?

They have test garden sites around the country that provide results and feedback during the test and trial process. I know of one such site in Tennessee.

beautiful roses, teh mary roses look like peonies, or do peonies look like roses? lol, very nice, the beetles did not do well this year, we had a cold snap in late may or early june and I guess that killed off many of the larvae. not sure last year they were not really that bad but hte year before very bad.

I would have stopped by sooner but you do not come up in the Reader feed for some reason. I adjusted the notification setting so I will now (hopefully) receive e-mail notifications.
On a personal note I love your Rose gardens, the info provided and the stories about them. My Moms Mom had Roses. Stories and memories are powerful things 🙂
